About the Charity

Thorner’s Homes has a voluntary Board of Trustees, all of whom live in the Wessex region and provide a broad range of expertise to the Board to provide strategic direction and overview of the charity, whilst ensuring it continues to move forward, providing quality homes and an environment that older women want to live in. 

The Management Team

The Management Team are based adjacent to Robert Thorner Court. Here day to day administration of the charity is carried out, ensuring compliance with regulators and the strategic direction of the charity is maintained.

Vicky Joynes

Chief Executive

Our Chief Executive is Vicky Joynes. Vicky is a Chartered Surveyor by profession and has managed the charity since arriving in November 2016. She has a wealth of experience having previously been the executive property director of a national learning disability charity. Tasked with the modernisation of the charity, Vicky has moved the charity from a charitable trust to a charitable incorporated organisation. worked with the trustee board and team to complete the re-modelling and refurbishment of Thorner's Court, including four new almshouse flats. As Vicky says, never a dull day! In her spare time, she ferries her children around, enjoys off-road racing, motorbikes and is a school governor and Parish Councillor.

Nicola Carol-Scott

Finance & Admin Officer

Nicola has proudly worked for the Charity since 2005 and her role encompasses, finance, administration and the training of staff on our housing management system. Nicola has played an essential role in modernising the Charity’s practices and her length of service and experience, means she is our “go to girl” when tapping into the Charity’s modern history. In her free time, Nicola enjoys dog walks, meditation, yoga and is a keen fan of the cinema.

Ken Lyon

Housing Manager

Ken arrived at Thorners in the summer of 2023 from another almshouse charity. Before that Ken worked in the building trade for more than 30 years starting as a carpenter for property developers before working for a housing association as a surveyor and then moving into housing maintenance. He has continued to gain valuable experience and is qualified in both Health & Safety and Fire Safety.

The Almshouse Team

The Almshouse Team are based across both sites, Robert Thorner Court, Regents Park Road, Shirley and Thorner's Court in Henstead Road, Southampton. Comprising of the roving Warden team who undertake the day to day management of the schemes and a handyman service.

Claire Saunders

Warden

Claires role encompasses ensuring both the women we house and the properties, are looked after. Based across all Thorner's sites, she is often the first point of contact for residents and the visitors to the buildings. She has a talent for keeping a smile on her face, even when the day is not going to plan!

Steve will always be found round one of the schemes fixing things.
