Safeguarding at Thorner’s Homes

This is a summary of our Safeguarding Adults Policy, which can be found in full in our Downloads Section

At Thorner’s Homes, we want everyone in our almshouse community to feel safe, respected, and supported.

Safeguarding means protecting people from harm, abuse, or neglect – and making sure concerns are taken seriously and acted on quickly.

Who We Protect

Our policy covers:

  • Residents
  • Visitors
  • Staff and volunteers
  • Trustees and contractors

We know that older people and those with additional needs can sometimes be at higher risk, especially in independent living settings.

What We Look Out For

We train our staff to recognise the signs of harm, which may include:

  • Physical abuse or neglect
  • Financial exploitation
  • Emotional or psychological abuse
  • Domestic abuse
  • Discrimination
  • Self-neglect or hoarding
  • Unsafe living conditions

Our Commitment

If we see or hear something that worries us, we will:

  1. Listen and treat concerns with respect
  2. Act promptly to make sure the person is safe
  3. Report to the right safeguarding agencies
  4. Record what happened accurately and confidentially
