Charges
As an almshouse, charges are made for accommodation. They are charged weekly and are made up of the following:
- Weekly Maintenance Charge (WMC) – would be a ‘rent’ equivalent
- Service Charges
- Background Heating & Hot Water (via a Heat Network)
- Water Rates
These charges are generally reviewed annually, with any changes implemented on the third Sunday in April.
From the 16th April 2023 the 2023-2024 charges are as follows:
Thorner’s Court
- Basic WMC £ 118.85 per week
- Service Charges £ 42.38 per week
- Heat & Hot Water £ 18.74 per week**
- Water Rates £ 4.94 per week
- Total £ 184.91 per week

Robert Thorner Court
- Basic WMC £ 126.09 per week
- Service Charges £ 47.76 per week
- Heat & Hot Water £ 23.18 per week**
- Water Rates £ 4.10 per week
- Total £ 201.13 per week
**w/e 13th Nov 2022, will be reviewed in the autumn of 2023
Please note that in line with nationally increased energy costs, the Charity had to pass on the increased costs for providing heating and hot water. The new charges came into effect on 13th November 2022 and will be reviewed in Autumn 2023. The heat and hot water is provided by what is known as a Heat Network. Any support given to the Charity has been passed on in full to the Residents, with additional costs being covered by the Charity.
At present and if eligible, Housing Benefit may pay up to 100% of the Basic WMC and Service Charges.
Background Heating & Hot Water and Water Rates, must be paid from your pension, employment or other income.

- Basic WMC £ 117.84 per week
- Service Charges £ 46.37 per week
- Heat & Hot Water £ 23.18 per week (w/e 13th Nov 2022)
- Water Rates £ 3.83 per week
- Total £ 191.22 per week
